10 Ways to Show Your Green Side Without Words

10 Ways to Show Your Green Side Without Words

You’re already doing things that are good for the planet—maybe you're using biodegradable salon towels or conserving water at the backbar. But are your clients seeing it?

Being sustainable is only half the equation. The other half is making sure your clients know about it. Latest research shows that customers are overwhelmingly eliminating salons that aren't aligned to their personal beliefs. Having a great service is no longer enough when attracting new customers.

Here are 10 ways to make your eco-efforts visible (without turning into a full-time marketer):

  1. Website - dedicate a page to what you are up to in making your salon and service more sustainable. Then, weave it into pages that make sense and add logos of your partners to your footer. SBCo has a lot of imagery and copy to get you started.
  2. Social - Break up the grid and monotony of stunning before and afters with something that says what you stand for. Get inspired with this free calendar of social media ideas.
  3. Email - utilize every touchpoint, including confirmations, to drop a hint of your eco practices. Try not to make it a statement, but more of a subtle hint hidden within a useful note. For example, when confirming your appointment, remind them to bring in their empty bottles for the dispensary or for the free recycling service you offer for aerosols through your recycling partner.
  4. Prep Time - upgrading refreshments to glass and signage to reusable rather than printed are statements about your dedication to preservation. It may seems small, but these cues are crucial.
  5. Position - show off your efforts and investments into tools and technology that help you reduce waste, like your ECOHEADS spray nozzles, Ping Color Mixer, or color management tech. Make sure it's visible and not hidden in the back room.
  6. Plants - placing plants throughout your space gives a subconscious cue that you are in touch with nature and it gives the added bonus of cleaning the air.
  7. Product Visibility - stop keeping your products hidden on your cart or under the sink. Proudly display the products you use to trigger conversations about ingredients and scalp and hair health.
  8. Recycle Stations - create a moment for recycling by placing them in view and consider offering clients the ability to bring in their hard to recycle beauty items for free disposal. Some salons also offer a discount on retail for doing so.
  9. Dispensary - the refillery trend is going strong, with dedicated stores popping up where you can bring in your reusable containers to purchase anything from flour to perfumes, lipsticks and hair products.
  10. Follow-up Email - the follow-up email is one of the most under utilized communication points, but it's so easy to drop in personalized recommendations and notes about things your service does that others do not. It's a major value-add, so don't forget it!

Clients don’t expect perfection—they just want to know you care. At Sustain Beauty Co., we help salons take actionable steps that are better for the planet and your bottom line.
