5 Sources of Sustainable Salon Inspiration

One of the greatest contributions modern technology has given us is the access to information. However, it is both a blessing AND a curse. Social media has taught us a lot about digital trust, offline versus online relationships, and how to fact check on the fly. That's why last year we started profiling people we noticed were sharing inspiring content that passed all the sense checks of both scientific accuracy and also intentions. So here is the annual list of six of our new favorite accounts to follow to stay inspired all year long. Happy Earth Day!

#1 @SustainableMazey

Mazey is both stylist and educator, but she takes a really unique approach to teaching stylists and salon owners as she sheds light on doing better in a very hands on way. Follow her and to see real world examples of how you can slash waste and move towards a lower impact way of life.

#2 @Sustainable_beauty_tribe

Nicole had me at the word 'boppin' which is how she describes the way she spreads the word on how sustainability is truly better. Traveling around her community in Colorado, she educates and inspires others on going beyond your day-to-day behind the chair or IN the chair. Sustainability is a way of life and Nicole is a testament to how investing in your community and each conversation is the start of something better.

#3 @emphasisoncurls

DISCLAIMER: Anyea is a client of ours so we are biased, but we'd be remiss to not call out how unique and intelligent her content is. While she's a sought after curl specialist, her content is different than the standard artists page as its got education for her guests and others that shows the power of natural hair.

#4 @the.hair.hug

Education and information about the chemicals we know (and rely on) and how to stay safe and minimize the impact on your health. THIS IS SO IMPORTANT! Get solid, easy-to-follow information about what's in the stuff we use every day, why it's there, how to protect yourself and new research related to safety specifically for you.

#5 @thethrivingstylist

Sustainability isn't all about the planet or environment. Economics play a huge part in creating a future where we all thrive, and Britt Seva has been someone dedicated to helping stylists manage their time, their business details, marketing and basically juggling it all. Make sure you take care of you so you can take care of the planet.

BONUS: @ecologi_hq

Ok, ok, this one isn't from our industry but we can't ignore that all industries are trying to do better and sometimes they've got some great ideas we can jump on as well. This page has some great news, stats, data points, and positive news about how we can do our part.
